It tastes like medicine.<\/strong> During the1920s Prohibition era, whisky could be legally imported into the U.S. because it was considered medicine, not liquor, and sold in pharmacies as a tonic. Whisky reduces the risk of heart disease.<\/strong> Another study from 1998 found a big shot of whiskey can protect against heart disease and heart failure while boosting the body&#8217;s defenses. Single malt whiskey provided the largest concentrations of helpful antioxidants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Whiskey lowers your likelihood of stroke.<\/strong> Large amounts of alcohol are related to a higher incidence of stroke, but moderate consumption \u2014 meaning one drink a day \u2014 that may offer protection against an ischemic stroke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. Whisky fights off a cold.<\/strong> The best cold medicine is hot toddies \u2014 whisky mixed with hot water, lemon and honey. The whiskey dilates blood vessels, making it easier for mucus membranes to combat infection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. It\u2019s the American thing to do.<\/strong> Tennessee and Kentucky are two of the world&#8217;s primary whiskey-distilling regions.
