For those of you with kids or grandkids, there is still a couple weeks before school starts and plenty of time for fun.<\/p>\n<p>If you created a summer bucket list, it\u2019s time to finish it up! And if you never created a list but are looking for a way to stay busy or see sights of the city, here are 15 great ideas.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Houston has more than 56,400 acres of parks.<\/strong> Some of the newer parks include Levy Park in Upper Kirby and the interactive Alice in Wonderland sculpture at Evelyn\u2019s Park in Bellaire.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Houston also has 37 free swimming pools open through August.<\/strong> Other pools like the Bellaire Town Square Family Aquatic Center and Noah\u2019s Ark Pool at Quillian Center charge a daily admission rate. Plus, the Houston Parks Department also operates 29 awesome, free splash pads.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Burp the bayou!<\/strong> There is a mysterious red button located on the Preston Street Bridge (515 Preston St.) over Buffalo Bayou that\u2019s just begging to be pressed. Hit it and then run to the center of the bridge to see a big bubble erupt just a few seconds later.<\/li>\n<li>After your done burping the bayou, <strong>visit the nearby Houston Aquarium<\/strong> or <strong>take a kayak on the Buffalo Bayou<\/strong>, exploring the 3-mile stretch from Lost Lake to Allen\u2019s Landing.<\/li>\n<li>Summer is all about fun in the sun, but air conditioning is really nice too. If you\u2019re going to stay instead, get cultured! <strong>Try the Museum of Fine Arts<\/strong>, the <strong>Houston Museum of Natural Science<\/strong> or the<strong> Children\u2019s Museum of Houston<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Watch a show at the Miller Outdoor Theater<\/strong> or attend a concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bring a blanket to watch Field of Dreams on Aug. 24<\/strong> on the lawn at Market Square Park.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Visit Hermann Park<\/strong> and enjoy the manufactured breeze on the 18-minute train ride.<\/li>\n<li>Now through September, <strong>you can visit to the Space Center<\/strong> to see the interactive Above and Beyond exhibit and try out flight simulators.<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019ve already visited the Houston Zoo \u2014 a must for your list \u2014 check out the open range <strong>Bayou Wildlife Zoo<\/strong>, which features a safari-like ride to see and feed all the animals.<\/li>\n<li>Visit the <strong>Kemah Boardwalk<\/strong> and get your live music fix Rock the Dock series every Thursday night until August 16.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Port of Houston<\/strong> Authority offers free 90-minute boat tours of the port.<\/li>\n<li>Austin isn\u2019t the only city with a large colony of Mexican free-tailed bats! Arrive about 15 minutes before sunset to see the bats leaving the Waugh Bridge every night to eat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Visit a working farm!<\/strong> All We Need Farm, Blessington Farms, Froberg\u2019s Farm, Fruit \u2019N Such Orchard and Old MacDonald\u2019s Farm, are all short drives from Houston.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, it\u2019s not summer without watching the <strong>World Series Champion Houston Astros<\/strong> play a game of baseball.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We all know summer in Houston can be sticky and hot, but that shouldn\u2019t stop you from being spontaneous, finding new adventures and checking out new places.
