4 Memorial Day Ideas to Make the Most of Your 3-Day Weekend
Memorial Day is a time to honor and celebrate the men and women to have sacrificed their lives to protect our country. These soldiers eschew life’s comforts, leave their families and friends behind, and put themselves in danger to ensure we are all safe back home.
To show our gratitude, we take time on Memorial Day to relax and spend some quality time with the people we love. Whether you’re spending the day at the beach, hosting a family barbecue, or taking a big trip out of town, we hope your Memorial Day is filled with love and gratitude. To help prepare for this special weekend, here are some fun ideas for spending Memorial Day weekend in Houston.
2019 Memorial Day 1 Mile, 5K & 10K
What better way to kick off summer than get your sweat on? In honor of all our fallen soldiers, Houston is hosting a virtual race that you can complete any time in May—even better if you finish the run on Memorial Day. You can walk or run 1 mile, 5K, or a 10K, so it’s easy to get the whole family involved. Even better, 15% of each registration will be donated to Operation Gratitude, an incredible organization that advocates for the U.S. Military and First Responder communities and provides volunteer opportunities for Americans who want to express their gratitude for our military personnel.
Memorial Day Ceremony
On May 27th, the City of Sugar Land plans to honor the brave men and women who have fought for our beautiful country by hosting its 10th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony. Starting at 10 a.m., this Memorial Day ceremony includes patriotic music, delicious food for purchase, on-site military exhibits, educational activities, and a flag ceremony. The event fills up fast and ends at 1 p.m., so make sure to get there early to snag a good parking spot.
Memorial Day Party
If you’re looking to let loose this Memorial Day weekend, Houston’s very own Showtime Bar and Lounge is hosting a huge barbecue. Doors open at 2 p.m. and there will be free crawfish (with any premium drink purchase) until they run out. In addition to drinks and free food, guests will be treated to a live DJ. The party ends at 6 p.m., so arrive early to get your drinks and free crawfish!
Memorial Day BBQ
Nothing says Memorial Day weekend quite like a big barbecue with all your friends and family. Instead of going out, load up an all your Houston barbecue favorites and host a get-together at your place, a nearby park, or a local beach. This way, you and your friends can have some fun in the sun without venturing too far out.
